Artist statement
I'm fascinated by an wide variety of things: maps and exploratory journeys, exotic deep-sea creatures, curious insects, and other trips through the imagination combine with more serious pursuits including archaeology, anthropology, animism and the evolution of consciousness.
Much of my work is inspired by the extravagant gestures of 'dressing up', and the seductive interaction between jewellery and wearer.
Objects that play with the connections and resemblances between the organic and the mechanic explore my preoccupation with articulated and kinetic elements. Sometimes inspiration is simply the chance sighting of something on the street that pretends to be what it really is not, thus setting in motion a train of new ideas and possibilities.
The starting point for many collections is a single phrase or sentence, that combined with the materials begins to tell it's own tale. Exploring the future possibilities for jewellery keeps me entertained - many pieces play with re-forming the traditional functions of jewellery, making a utilitarian future much more multi-dimensional.
